You probably bought a machine because of all the Cricut projects you wanted to make. There are loads of different ideas and crafts that you can create using a Cricut Maker or Cricut Explore. But you have to take it out of the box first!!

Cricut DIY projects will require you to have a few supplies on hand. Those will depend on the type of projects you want to create. I’m more of a paper crafter. I do have a ton of vinyl on hand and like to switch over and make shadow boxes, decorative cups, and shirt decals.

You will also need to have a good understanding of Cricut Design Space and the functions of your machine. Making projects and crafts will go a lot smoother when you have a good solid understanding of the software and the mechanics of your Cricut Maker.

What Projects Do You Want to Make…

Make a pair of readable socks. Any phrase you want. Mommy can be on a break. Or you could do one about Hallmark movies, watching a football game, or drinking wine!

Stencils are a great way to get paint onto the surface of your choice. You can use it to put fabric paint on a shirt, make a wooden sign, or even paint on the wall.

Freezer paper is a great way to make a stencil without having to buy a specialty material.

Shadow boxes have been around for memorabilia for a long time! You probably remember all the different shadow box ideas from the ’80s and ’90s.

Graduation memorabilia, tassels, class rings, and letterman patches.

Or maybe you have used a shadow box for baby memorabilia.

You can now use them to make some great home decor!

Personalize your drink koozies. You can make them for your own use while you float around the pool or make them as party favors. They work great for baby showers, bridal showers, and birthday get-togethers!

Use your Cricut to make different add-ons for your favorite planner. You can design planner pocket, tabs to mark your place, inspirational quote pages, and even your “word of the year”.

You can also make your own planner stickers! Print them out, color them (if you want to) and then cut them with your Cricut.

Decorate planners, journals, or even a scrapbook. There are so many different ways to use paper and adhesive for paper projects with your Cricut Maker!

Creating your own home decor with your Cricut machine is a major selling feature. Everyone wants to make a custom sign for the front porch or the kitchen. Cute signs for the bedrooms.

Make a quick and easy DIY sign as one of your first Cricut projects with the help of this tutorial.

Using Your Cricut for Craft Projects

Whatever projects and crafts you choose to make with your Cricut, there are examples all over.

Hopefully, this list gave you some great ideas of where to start with your new machine. Now that you have a good idea about the types of things you can make with your Cricut, you can start to add some of your own personal touches to the projects that you find online.

The best way to learn is to replicate someone else’s project. Then the next time you add a few of your own ideas and things that popped in your head while you were making the first project.

Experiment with materials. Play with different ways to cut vinyl and paper. Try layering. Use some of the different Cricut blades. There are so many new and unique things that you could design with this machine. You are only limited by your imagination and creativity!
